Concept

PLEASE / Jasper Morrison

The PLEASE watch for Issey Miyake takes it’s inspiration from the great lrving Penn 1994 photograph of Miyake’s equally great Pleats Please Collection. I visited the 21_21 Design Exhibition of Penn’s photo’s for Miyake and was overwhelmed by how Penn managed to capture the spirit of Miyake’s clothes in this photos. I decided to do my best to capture some of that spirit for this new watch.

W / Satoshi Wada

The powerful and dynamic case is inspired by an aluminium wheel of a car and the long hands indicate the time on its precise gauge-like dial. The concept is explained by the designer - “ I designed this watch to reflect the minimal mind based onthe traditional aesthetic sense of Japan. Aiming for returning to basics of Japanese traditional arts, I proposed a new type of chronograph watch started in Japan.” The features of this quartz watch, the second hand moving like an automatic watch and the button click feeling, will surely please man’s fun-loving nature.

V / Tokujin Yoshioka

The 14th series of ISSEY MIYAKE watch project, produced by ISSEY MIYAKE, is presented by Tokujin Yoshioka’s new design.
“V”, watch is from the V cuts that are randomly constructed on the metal bracelet, reflects light, shows various expression of it, and gives off poetic reflections.

O / Tokujin Yoshioka

Its concept is “Shape of Water – Transparent Time.” The name is “O” (eau, French for water). Using clear material, a favorite of Yoshioka’s, it is a watch without shape, like water, emitting instantaneous radiance, like light.

GO / Naoto Fukasawa

The rounded square form of the GO watches is a slight squaring of the round go stone (a traditional Japanese board game). Picked up and played with the fingers, go stones are welcome to the touch and make you feel good when handling them. Just a glance at these new watches tells you they must feel good! I have produced a most satisfying design, both tactilely and visually. Figures on the dial mirror the same rounded square of the case. Either leather or metal bands can be used.

TRAPEZOID / Naoto Fukasawa

As the name "TRAPEZOID" suggests, I first had the image of a trapezoid form in rotation. So, the bezel is cut steeply, and a tachymeter is provided on it.Numbers are proportioned like speed limits painted on a road surface - stretched in height to be readable normally when viewed from the front, despite their steep angles around the circumference. It's a familiar scene and effect, and I've used it now in combination with chronograph functions. In the same way, fashion and motor sports are unified via the use of strong color contrasts; for example, yellow numbers against a red face, and yellow-green against a blue face.

TWELVE / Naoto Fukasawa

I tried to design a watch which is as simple and as strong as possible.I wanted to eliminate all markings, even numbers, from the face. This inspired me to give the crystal itself twelve sides. With the twelve angles of the case serving as the hour markers,I only had to add the hour and minute hands, both having the same width equal to the diameter of the central post. The result is a sharp face distinguished by the unique angular shape and wide hands. I feel that this strong, clear, and simple design is suitable for the brand of ISSEY MIYAKE.

VUE / Yves Behar

The design of VUE was started with a fresh recognition of what is important about time, especially the value of“ present” time. A face was created that shows only the figure for present time. No unnecessary numbers are displayed. Looking at only one number concentrates the mind on the present. The simple, innovative cylindrical glass top enables time to be seen from the side. In addition, there is a playful effect as the light striking the glass top illuminates the sides. The ticking away of valuable time in a glass showcase is actually there to watch! Yves Behar’s statement: This watch expresses how we think of time. Whenever I look at a watch to check the time, I always wonder: Why am I seeing 12 numbers? There is only one number I want to know. The uniqueness of this watch design is that it shows only that one number. As the figure of past time gradually disappears and next figure gradually appears, the scene is a fantastic expression of the present changing to the past and the future becoming now. The message contained is:“ Time cannot be reversed, but it certainly brings new surprises.” This mystery of time is what this watch intends to convey. Displaying only the present time puts you into“ a new view of time.”

HU / Ross Lovegrove

"Hu”….. simply means human. A clear and pure statement embodied in a timepiece for Issey Miyake. In many ways it is a fusion between the incredible works of Issey san , his constant invention, respect for materials and almost spiritual serenity in the way his clothes relate to the human form. It truly is a creative bonding and all my life long feelings about watches as a prosthetic extension of the body, the concept of anatomical contouring and the organic sculptural possibilities of materials that integrate into one single skin.

TO / Tokujin Yoshioka

The "TO" series well reflects Tokujin Yoshioka's unique approach to design. He begins with selection of a material; then extracts its character, minimalizing design elements. As a result, the watches look as if they have been sculpted from a lump of metal. The fusing of ISSEY MIYAKE's creative vision and SII's advanced technology of watch-making now embraces the design inspirations of Tokujin Yoshioka, giving birth to the new "TO" series. The watches are characterized by an appearance of solidity, making a strong statement with their substantial, sculpture-like designs. While continuing the concept on a watch appearing to have been carved from a single piece of metal, the design has been further refined. Watches with rugged, mechanical, self-winding movements are now available.

VAKIO / Harri Koskinen

SIMPLE & CLEAN

In the Finnish language 'vakio' means 'constant, standard' The VAKIO's innovative design concept is based on Northern European industrial design with an orientation toward "visual beauty in a design you will love forever"

OVO / Shunji Yamanaka

This is a watch named egg. The small globe is the source of life. Slowly germinating, extending a feeler to search in all directions, eventually it melds with its host, and the two grow symbiotically. All the while, at its core, a gene, the pendulum ticks.
il pendolo batte.
